New to public tenders? Plain-English guide to this page
- Framework
- An agreement that sets terms for work the buyer may order later, often from several suppliers. The value shown usually covers the whole agreement, not one job.
- Open for bids / closing date
- You must submit by the closing date and time, normally through the buyer's own online portal. Late bids are normally refused.
- Clarification questions
- A deadline for asking the buyer questions about the tender. It is earlier than the closing date.
- Conditions of participation
- What the buyer asks suppliers to show before they can be considered, such as experience, insurance or accreditations.
- Bids are scored on
- How the buyer will compare bids, usually a split between price and quality. A 60/40 split in favour of quality means the cheapest bid will not necessarily win.
- Lots
- A tender can be split into parts. You can often bid for only the lots that suit you.
- Area (ITL)
- The buyer names an official statistical area for where the work is, not a street address. Check the tender documents for the actual sites.
- UK4 and other notice codes
- Official codes for the type of notice. A "tender notice" means bids are being invited.

Description
Located on the Harwell Science & Innovation Campus in Oxfordshire, Diamond Light Source (DLS) is a leading-edge facility for science, engineering and innovation. DLS allows researchers from academia and industry to investigate the structure and behaviour of the world around us at the atomic and molecular level. To continue delivering the world changing science that Diamond enables, the facility is being upgraded to Diamond-II, a co ordinated programme of development that combines a major machine upgrade with new instruments and complementary improvements to optics, detectors, sample environment
and delivery capabilities, and computing, as well as integrated and correlative methods. This will be transformative in speed and spatial resolution and will offer users streamlined
access to enhanced instruments for life and physical sciences.
The scope of the contract is to manufacture various vessel support fabrications, assemblies and machined components to DLS designs as detailed in the specification.
All assemblies should be delivered fully assembled and set to their mid travel where applicable.
Completed components are to be delivered to Diamond Light Source.
DLS will supply detailed manufacturing drawings and models with the specification. These specify geometry, materials, machining, stress relieving and any coatings required.
Suppliers are invited to make recommendations to modify the designs to improve performance, cost or delivery in their tender submission.
The contract for this includes:
• Contract management
• Purchase of all materials.
• Manufacture of the components according to the table specified in specification
• All jigs and tooling required for manufacture
• Cleaning and protecting
• Quality assurance documentation
